My Review

Shari Low has done it again, she has created a book that will leave you feeling happy and sad, make you laugh, yet also cry. I wanted to grab my favourite girls and hug them close with lots of wine flowing. Hopefully one day soon girls!

How happy I was to hear from Carly again, whose point of view the story is told from. Carly Cooper is a legend with the best friends you ever could want. They have the best friendship and are more like family. Think Sex and The City and twenty years later add family/kids into the mix.

Carly has changed from the carefree and adventurous women she was before. Which left me feeling sad for her and wanting her to get back to feeling more like herself, just maybe not as wild this time! Of course her friends wasn’t going to let her suffer alone.

Carly’s trip to LA was an experience. I love how all the girls had her back. The fun they had together was great. I really cannot wait for holidays again with my girls. It really is a funny book, filled with lots of laugh out moments, which is exactly what I needed right now in lockdown. There was also heartache, and I really felt for them all but the bond the girls shared was very special. I was glad to read even with the heartache Carly was still hilarious!

Sam was the best friend/ex you could ever want, with that dream house in LA. I really want to go to LA and even more so after reading this book.

Mark still had something about him and I felt sad for him at the beginning. I was still torn as much as the first book with who I liked more out of Carly’s lovers! LOL.

I absolutely love the writing style and the characters Shari creates. Also, Aunt Val deserves a massive shout out as she was just brilliant and a ray of sunshine. On the opposite scale we have Estelle well wasn’t she a piece of work!

Each chapter kept me wanting more. I literally did not want this to end, equally though I wanted to know if Carly got her happy-ever-after.

If you haven’t read What If? I highly recommend it, just because it’s great. Even though this book explains everything that happened in the first book, the first book was just as fabulous and funny as the ladies were a lot younger and finding their way in life.

Romance, heartache, friendships, forever love and trips to New York and LA. What is not to love?!

Here’s to us all living our best lives, with our soulmates 😊

Book Review – What If? By Shari Low

You know a book is going to be great; when two chapters in you have lost count of the amount of times you have laughed out loud. This book was fun, funny and absolutely fantastic. I was captivated from the beginning and lost a few late nights to Carly and her dramas.  With many brilliant one liners. I laughed out loud the whole way through. This is a must read and I was so happy to be part of such a wonderful blog tour.

Synopsis

The book that started it all! A classic retro romcom from #1 bestselling author Shari Low.

1999.
Carly Cooper is 30, single, and after coming close to saying ‘I Do’ to six different men, she’s wondering if she accidentally said ‘goodbye’ to Mr Right.
But there is a problem.
Her ex-boyfriends are scattered all over the world and Carly lives in 1999; an era before Facebook, Google, smartphones, 4G and Broadband, when it was impossible to track people down with a few clicks of a mouse.
On a mission to discover if she walked away from her ‘happy ever after’, Carly quits her job, her flat, her whole life and sets off on a quest to track down all the men she has ever loved.
Her Mr Right is out there, but can she find him?
And what if he’s moved on from the ex-girlfriend who said goodbye? A wonderful classic 20th-anniversary re-release.

My review

I loved this book very much. Carly was hardworking, persistent, had the biggest heart, strong as an ox, and full of so much courage! Yes she was a walking disaster and a spontaneous nightmare. You couldn’t help but love her. With the best group of friends, friends since high school, they were more like family. They had her back since day one, even through all of her dating mishaps. I loved their easy, caring, strong friendship, its one you would want to be apart of. They were all literally amazing and I loved them all. Especially how much they adored and cared for each other.

Carly in my eyes was a legend and a character I’m going to miss for a long time.

The girls first holiday to Benidorm had me in stiches and took me right back to my first girls holiday. Jess and her rules. LOL.

The men…Carly’s men!…So much to say about all of these but I wont give away any spoilers. If you have read this, did you have a favourite? I think mine was the Irish one or was it the one in China. Both! I loved all of the adventures she went on. My best was maybe her time in China. I liked reading about her journey from a young women, the first time she met these men, to when she was then 30 ,going back on the journey to meet them all again. Some shocking discoveries and moment during this time. There never was a dull moment, both times!

The chapters were written so well, I loved how they went back and forth from her previous adventures to now. Each chapter reeled you in and left you wanting more. The song names and artists as a chapter title were a nice touch and left me singing along to that song at the start of each chapter.

My favourite line had to be ‘Since when was he so direct? This is the same guy who took five weeks to snog me. Has he been on an assertiveness course?’ haha priceless. I was howling with laughter.

Who else thought about their past reading this? and what if?!  I’m such an over thinker as it is, and am happy in a relationship but I will admit this book got me thinking a lot. Not crazy like Carly to go chase them half way around the world. For starters a few of them didn’t deserve it! Ha! And I definitely dont want to go looking for them, but more on a personal level. Could I have done things differently, did I make the right choices growing up, especially when younger and my first love. Did they get the best of me….did I let them they treat me right, if only I was as wise as now.  All what if’s. But I also am a believer in everything happens for a reason.

This is the first book I have read by this author and I will be reading more. I really enjoyed it.
