Book Review – Coming Back To You By Lily Hayden

There is so much to say about this book, especially without giving any spoilers away. When I closed the page, I had to have a few hours out as it touched me that much. I was an emotional wreck. Thank you for letting me be part of this blog tour.

Synopsis

From the moment that Emma met Ryan, she knew he was the one for her, but he leaves her heartbroken when he betrays her and disappears from her life, only to return and shatter her heart for a second time.

We were never meant to be, we just happened against the odds.

It feels like fate when life throws them back together as adults, but Emma has moved on now and she can’t throw everything away for the man who left her heartbroken twice.

Emma is living a charmed life with a beautiful family and her art career beginning to take off, but she can’t help feeling like her heart is pulling her back to her first love.

I keep on coming back to you.

One chance encounter with Ryan, so unexpected that it feels like it was written in the stars, throws them back together and she can’t deny the connection between them is stronger than ever. Emma learns that Ryan has been keeping a secret from her, and she has to decide whether to turn away from him forever or keep fighting for their love against all odds.

My Review

A story about first love, getting your heart broken, fate, chemistry, second chances and soulmates. Friendships and family issues – It had it all. It’s a must read.

I was captivated from the first page. Powerful, emotional and romantic. Stick it to the top of your to be read pile, you won’t be sorry.

This book played on my heart strings all throughout. It was a rollercoaster of a story that left you feeling high one minute – absolutely loving what was happening and then the next – an emotional mess and completely heartbroken. My emotions were all over the place.

The story starts with Emma as a teenager, you get to follow her journey of life, until she is a grown woman with her own family. I think I felt so much for this story as you grew up with Emma and you wanted the best for her. I connected and warmed to her from the beginning. I just adored her. As a teenager she met her first love Ryan and fell head over heels. Emma didn’t have a lot of friends at school, so I loved this bit when she was happy. I felt her emotions and feels through the pages. Ryan stirred something inside her and really made her happy. Their connection was special.

I also felt for Emma at times with the relationship with her dad. He was extremely hard on her and doing the normal teenager things were a struggle for her at times, due to him being strict and not understanding. Missing out on a group outing with her friends, she is left heartbroken by the turn of events.

Of course, years later, fate has other ideas and then its all about getting that second chance, opening your heart again. Emma was brave and did what any girl would do. I was worried for her, like she was an actual friend of mine. Crazy how you can get fully engaged in a book that it seemed real. I was guessing what was going to happen all throughout and was always was trying to work out what was coming next. Always failing.

I loved how the story was told several years apart at different stages of Emma’s life from finishing school, university, moving on with her life to settling down.

Emma faced a lot of heartache and I really felt for her, I was so sad. Lucky Emma had met an amazing best friend at University called Patch. Patch was there to sort her out and help her through all the difficult times. I loved how they got through everything together. Patch was up there with the best friend ever – she was so good to Emma and they had a great relationship. It made me laugh how straight talking Patch was and always calling Emma out on her feelings, in an endearing way.

Having her own family and things really looking up on the career front Emma is faced again with fate. You can’t keep meeting with fate and let it pass you by. Can you?!

Emma was torn at times, she had to deal with some hard choices and with a lot of sadness. I just wanted her to put herself first and make herself happy. Not always please other people. I really was team Emma all throughout this story. As you can probably tell.

Chemistry and love really are the best things and I can see why Emma made some of the choices she did. Sometimes you really cannot ignore that connection and just have to go with it. The Christmas market scene well that was intense. I was literally screaming for her.

The twists and secrets in this book were brilliantly done. It also touched on tough issues. I will leave my thoughts and feelings there as I could speak about this story all day and night and I do not want to give any spoilers away. Overall this book left me feeling happy, sad, angry and heartbroken. It was brilliant. Everything you could want in a book.

Book Review – The Middle Aged Virgin In Italy

It’s my turn on the blog tour today and how delighted I am. Thank you Olivia for letting me be part of it.

Synopsis

Can a holiday romance lead to long-term love?

When Sophia moves to Tuscany to be with Lorenzo, she dreams of finally having it all: the amazing boyfriend, the baby she’s always wanted, the great career and the fairy-tale life in an idyllic town. But the reality is very different…

The only Italian Sophia seems to have mastered since arriving is pastaprosecco and gelato. She suddenly finds herself dealing with Lorenzo’s meddling mother and juggling caring for her son with running a business hundreds of miles away, and there’s a problem in the bedroom department…

Despite Lorenzo being hotter than chilli sauce, since becoming a mum, Sophia has zero desire to get jiggy. None. After several months without any action, she’s in danger of becoming a Middle-Aged Virgin. Again.

Can Sophia get her sex life back? Will her holiday romance go the distance so she can find her happily-ever-after in Italy?

Join Sophia on her laugh-out-loud Italian adventures today as she steps out of her comfort zone and attempts to relight her fire and enjoy la dolce vita with hilarious encounters along the way.

My review:

If you have seen my Instagram stories over the last few days, you will know how much I have enjoyed and laughed out loud so many times during this book. I absolutely loved it. It was fun, sexy and very funny. With a good plot around relationships. Also set in Italy. What is not to love?!

Strong, career driven Sophia moves to Italy to be with her dishy boyfriend Lorenzo. Leaving a great support network, which includes two amazing best friends. Bella and Roxy who are based in London. Knowing no one, the area or the language and still having to run her London business, it’s not as easy as she thought. Especially since becoming a mum and facing the new mum challenges. This new life is the complete opposite to what she knows.

Sophia does what she does best to sort her new life out – makes a list. The amount of  laugh out loud moments whilst working on this list will stay with me a long time.

Lorenzo was the most loviest, calm and understanding boyfriend and really looked out for Sophia. Their relationship really was special. One big issue. The mother in law. Who of course  Lorenzo was really close to his mum and would do anything for. Oh I do love books with mother in laws featured, as I adore my mil so much. She is supportive, caring, lovely and we have a great relationship. The total opposite to what Sophia faces in Italy.

I loved all the characters but Geli needs a special shout out, wasn’t she just brilliant?!Roxy is defo the naughty best friend and Bella the good best friend, together they are the perfect combination for Sophia. I loved their friendship.

I was so excited throughout this and loved all the unexpected surprises. I love it when your reading a book and not expecting something and it happens and it leaves you squealing in delight or laughing your head off. It’s a must read.

The Middle Aged Virgin

Whilst this new release can be read as a standalone, if you want to read book one in the series, The Middle-Aged Virgin first, it’s currently 99p on Amazon for a limited time (https://amzn.to/2w2UbZu). Kindle Unlimited subscribers can read it for FREE.

It’s equally as brilliant. I definitely recommend them both. You get a feel for both Sophia and Lorenzo. You get to witness how, where it first started and their chemistry. Which was just electrifying. You also get to know Bella and Roxy. Who are both amazing in their own way. Naughty Roxy, the fun, loving, party girl who just wants to live life to the full. Good girl Bella, who is happily married with a little boy and always sees the best in people. She’s like Sophia’s voice of reason, where as Roxy is like the devil on her shoulder. When they get together as a trio, they are hilarious.

Book review: Lies by T.M. Logan

Joe is happily married and plodding along with his ordinary life, when a last-minute decision changes everything. Seeing his wife involved in a heated argument with family friend Ben. Joe stops at nothing to find out what’s going on. What was she doing with him? why wasn’t she picking up her phone? Why did she lie about where she was? .

My mother in law said read this, its gripping you won’t want to put it down. Well she wasn’t wrong. I read this in a few days. It was amazing. You know one of those books where you cannot stop reading as you think you are close to finding out the next piece of the puzzle… Then something else happens which throws you completely off and then you don’t want to put it down as you might miss something.

The story featured some strong characters, some were next level that you would not want as a friend or to meet down a dark alley!! It was so well written and very clever. All the detail and research that went into this, was outstanding. .

I loved the unexpected ending. You will have to read for yourself, I cannot give any spoilers out.

You won’t believe it though. If you have read it and was shocked as I was, let me know.

Book Review: My Great Ex-Scape by Portia Macintosh

This was a fun, chick lit read with plenty of laugh out loud moments. Just what was needed after some intense books. .

Imagine being dumped live on tv and winning 50,000 at the same time…..
.
Could a bunch of flowers send you on a trip to track down all of your ex’s and end up in New York. It can if you are Rosie and are clearly not thinking straight. I really liked Rosie and think a lot of us women could relate to her. We have all been there dumped, brokenhearted and are quick to jump at a new adventure or act crazy! I was interested to know if Rosie could turn her heartbreak around after being so unlucky in love.

Without giving too much away Rosie had a right mix of ex’s ranging from the lovely one you would totally want as a best friend, the sweetheart marriage material one, to the player you would not want to go near! I really loved Rosies relationship with her parents and also the strong bond and many laugh out loud moments she had with Eli. The swimming pool chapter was hilarious! .

This was my first Portia book and I really enjoyed it so will definitely be reading more of her books. I also really want to go on a cruise now, just maybe not a silver linings one! If you read it you will get why – haha !

Book Review : Burned Alive by Souad

I give this ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

There are not many books I can say I’ve read in less than 40 hours, but this is one of them. It was so intense, I was captivated from start to finish.

This is a story of a young Palestinian women who was brought up in the West Bank. She describes the most awful treatment she received growing up, including being a slave for her family from a very young age. Souad then goes onto tell the punishment she was

given for falling in love and how she is still alive today.

I never really read nonfiction not because I don’t enjoy it just because I wouldn’t know where to start. So, when I was given this true story to read I moved it to the top of my TBR pile. I can honestly say it’s the most powerful, moving, emotional book I have ever read. I was left feeling all kinds of emotions, sad, angry, shocked and heartbroken.

This is a book that will stick with me forever and keep me going over and over of how Souad suffered and the unfairness of it.

To know honour killings goes on in our world has deeply saddened and shocked me. Thank you for letting me open my eyes and heart to something I knew little about.

I’m glad Souad has been able to tell her story, as painful as it must have been. What a courageous, brave, strong women.

Not to forget what an amazing and remarkable women Jacqueline is.

Book Review: Some Kind Of Wonderful by Giovanna Fletcher

I absolutely love all of Giovanna’s books so when she has a new book out, I’m always excited as I know it’s going to be great. It has taken me a while to get around to reading this partly due to my book shelf bursting with all many books to read. I’m just gutted I didn’t get to this sooner.

The blurb

When the love of your life says you’re not The One, who are you?

Lizzy and Ian have been a couple since the first week of university. Now, after celebrating a decade together, everyone thinks they’re about to get engaged.

Instead, a romantic escape to Dubai leaves Lizzy with no ring, no fiancé and no future.

Lizzy is heartbroken – but through the tears, she sees an opportunity. This is her moment to discover what she’s been missing while playing Ian’s ideal ‘better half’.

But how much has Ian changed her, and who should she be without him?

Determined to discover who she is at heart, Lizzy sets out to rediscover the girl she was before – and, in the meantime, have a little fun . . .

My review

Imagine sitting by the pool in Dubai with your boyfriend of 10 years, waiting for that proposal. Both your friends and family think it’s going to happen. So last day in the sun, he must do it before you leave, right?!

Lizzy is beginning to give up hope. We all know what’s coming…well more we are hoping and praying for Lizzy. It seems it’s her dream to marry Ian.

Then picture him on one knee….

So how did Lizzy then end up to spending the last night alone.

Back home it’s now time for Lizzy to pick up the pieces and move on. Easier said than done, as us girls that have ever been in that situation would know. Lizzy does what any of us would and goes into melt down.  She starts revaluating the last 10 years of her life and where did it go wrong. How could she change so much because of one person?

But really does one person change us or do we adapt to fit in someone else life. This is a brilliant story of self-discovery. Lizzy is so inspiring. I loved how she picked herself back up by doing something she loves for herself. It’s a great message to love yourself first and just be you and do what you want to do.

This isn’t just a story about boy and girl it’s also a touching story on friendship and family. Her friendship with her family is just so lovely and honest. Best friend Connie was exactly what you want in a friend and same for the new friendship with Natalia. They were both funny, loyal and full of spirit. With Natalia there comes Alastair and just wow! The attraction was just electric. I thought I was with them in the club on New Year’s Eve. My heart was racing, everything stopped around me while I was willing them to kiss. The chemistry and desire were jumping out the page it was so real and intense. Then there was the church scene where I was squealing with delight.

Some Kind of Wonderful is a must read it’s a perfect book to get lost in, that you won’t want to put down.
