My Review

Summer is here! This book is every bookworms paradise.

Freya has the dream job, a bookseller in The Maldives.

I was envious of Freya. I love the sunshine, being by the sea, surrounded by books all day, imagine getting to run a bookshop on an island.

I devoured this book in 2 days. I was hooked and utterly lost in this dreamy location and fell in love with it and Kate’s writing. Maldives is on my bucket list and I am glad I got to go there by reading this book.  The descriptive words used, really painted the picture of the idyllic setting. It was captured in the most beautiful way. The beach sounded out of this world, it oozed romance and exactly how I picture the real Maldives.  Blissful and stunning. I was lapping up the white sand, turquoise water, beautiful sea views and those beach villas….one day!!

As well as being romantic and uplifting, I liked the way Kate tackled the emotional side too of heartbreak and lost. We got to dig deeper into what was making Freya sad. Which only made me adore her even more.

I liked the two different male characters in the book; Aaron and Zander. Who both equally sounded gorgeous but as always there is a lot more than meets the eye! I enjoyed now the story evolved around both characters.

This was the ideal summer read. Especially when we cannot travel. Its escapism at its best.

Also how awesome is the cover! Very enticing.

I now want to go to this book shop and see how all the island are doing!! If only!

Book Review – Always and Forever at Glendale Hall by Victoria Walters

Synopsis

What if we’re all just searching for something?

Anna Stewart is lost. After barely surviving a car accident as a teenager, Anna is scared of settling. Flitting between jobs, boyfriends and homes whenever she gets bored, she has no idea what the future holds. Then her brother Brodie, minister of Glendale, suggests she moves to the beautiful Scottish village, lining up a housekeeper job for her at Glendale Hall.

Out of options, Anna agrees to the move, knowing that she can always run away again. Once at the hall, her culinary skills impress everyone, and she agrees to give Hilltop Farm’s new manager, Cameron, cooking lessons. Sparks fly between Anna and the handsome Scot, but Cameron is looking for love – something that Anna definitely isn’t.

But it’s wedding season at Glendale Hall, and Anna is about to discover that her new home has a way of working its magic on even the coldest of hearts. Will she really be able to just walk away, or could Anna have finally found a place to belong?

It’s summertime in the beautiful Highlands village of Glendale – pack your bags and come on holiday with this gorgeously uplifting, romantic read. Fans of Milly Johnson, Heidi Swain and Holly Martin will love this charming romcom.

My Review

I am a massive fan of Vicky and her books; her Instagram page is filled with such pretty things and her books are great, especially the Glendale Hall series.

This is the 4th book in the series. You can read them as a standalone, however I highly recommend reading the books in order. Not only are they all great but it also allows you get to know the other characters in the group and get a feel for the community. Glendale for me is like the place people go and never leave!!

We have heard Beth, Emily and Heather’s stories and it’s now time for Anna’s. I was curious to read about Anna’s story and see what magic Glendale hall would work on her.

I really liked Anna, she was like a little girl lost at first, she clearly had issues from the past that she kept to herself. you couldn’t help but feel for her. Yet at the same time she was feisty, free spirited, independent, honest and funny. She was a great character and I liked her passions. At times I really felt the emotion and pain from Anna and wanted her to be happy. I think she might be one of my new favourites of the series.

Cameron was another character who was even more of a closed book, one that you just wanted to rip open to reveal his history. With an instant connection to Anna, their chemistry was intense, I loved it. Especially at the first cooking lesson where they got to know each other. I had to laugh, how cold he was towards her and she had no idea why!

Annas brother Brodie, who we know from the previous book, was just the most amazing, caring, patient, big brother. As much as there was romance, there were deep issues too, which were emotional and left you turning the pages to unravel the drama. Pretty much like the whole series.

What I love about this series is, each of the next book, keeps you updated with the previous book, so you can see how they are all doing and thriving with their chosen passions. I won’t spoil anything, in case you haven’t read the other books, as they are delightful, as are all of the characters. As much as they meddle, they all have good hearts and it really makes you want to go to Scotland and be their friends!

I wish Glendale was a real place!

I want to also go to a murder mystery weekend and dress up in 1930’s clothes. What a great touch! I like how Vicky’s love of vintage items come through in the book during this scene.

This was a feel good, heart-warming, summer read, perfect for sitting in the garden, drinking rose and enjoying the sunshine. Which is where I read most of it!

Well done Vicky, another amazing book. I am looking forward to your next one….

Book Review – Mr Right Across The Street By Kathryn Freeman

And once she’s had a taste she knows it will never be enough!

My Review

I adored this book for many reasons. Firstly, I enjoyed getting to know all the characters. Secondly, I find leaving handwritten notes, the loveliest thing ever and when it’s from the opposite sex it sure is romantic. So of course, I loved this element of the story.

Along with a sweet, slow burn romance, that was funny, full of easy banter, add some hot chemistry and it was the perfect Romcom!

Mia was brave and strong to move away from her family, especially with her past. I felt she let her past rule her head too much and was glad when she finally started having some fun and not just working. I admired her spirit and the way she knew her own mind. How she didn’t do things, just to join in with the crowd.  I without a doubt loved the relationship she had with her sister Elle. Elle was great, the way she didn’t hold back…. she is definitely like my sister! Their phone calls made me laugh out loud, Elle was literally loving all the updates of Mr hot working out across the street.

Luke was more than just good looks, he was charming, funny and romantic. I felt for him throughout and really wanted him to sort out his issues and luck be on his side. Lucky, he had a great support network, who were all equally amazing.

I really did not like Freya at all and cannot stand conniving and manipulating women like her! Her ways were awful and just no need for it. I do not know how she managed it…. some men really are silly. As you can tell she made me angry ha-ha! Team Mia all the way

I adored the dates and thought they were very creative and not just your standard dinner and drinks, as much as I love dinner and drinks. These had a fun element to it. The dancing date was my favourite. I loved reading about the little touches, the looks, it really made you feel that spark between the characters.

I feel Stan also deserved a mention as he was hilarious, his dry sense of humour was brilliant. His banter and easy friendship with Mia were great. As was Naomi. Who I feel everyone needs a friend like her, wise and lovely.

This is the first book I’ve read by this author; I now need to go and check out more of her books as I need more romance and laugher like this….

I will end it on saying, this is a must read as everyone needs a bit of Luke in their life.

Author Bio –

A former pharmacist, I’m now a medical writer who also writes romance. Some days a racing heart is a medical condition, others it’s the reaction to a sexy hero.

With a husband who asks every Valentine’s Day whether he has to buy a card (yes, he does), any romance is all in my head. Then again, his unstinting support of my career change proves love isn’t always about hearts and flowers – and heroes come in many disguises.

Book Review – Opposites Attract by Camilla Isley

Synopsis

First law of magnetism: opposite poles attract.

Single mom Vivian has been burned by love once before, and her job as a divorce lawyer has presented enough evidence to convince her there are no good men left in New York City.

The worst offender is her new neighbor: Dr. Lucas Keller, a couple’s therapist whose piercing blue eyes and flawless dark hair are just as annoying as his bad temper.

But when Luke starts poaching Vivian’s clients by saving their marriages, she makes it her mission to force him out of the building to save her practice. But it’s Luke who gives her the perfect opportunity when he proposes an unexpected bet.

With their offices at stake, Vivian and Luke play the field of love in a fierce battle of wits that quickly turns hot and personal, especially when Vivian’s daughter gets involved. Now, taking down Luke has become more than business for Vivian. It’s become a pleasure—and soon, Vivian and Luke will realize how pointless it is to fight the laws of attraction.

My review

This book was great and I was hooked from the beginning. The banter and chemistry was written so well that you could feel it through the pages. Plus it’s set in New York and I am in love with that city.

If you read and loved The Hating Game you would love this. I do love an enemies to lovers story. Especially, as this was the type of story I wrote on my creative writing course before I read these two books. I had to do 1000 words and mine was based around an office romance. Working in a cooperate office I see it all the time and Love these types of stories, they are not just the usual boy meets girl. Oh, I’m such a hopeless romantic!

The dates had me laughing so hard. Seriously some people in the dating world. You need to read it to find out.

I also loved the lift scene and again my short story had a lift scene. This was done better than mine I do have to say. Hehe. I love the build up of what’s coming. You could feel the passion! I can’t say anymore than that as I don’t want to ruin it.

Vivian – a divorce lawyer who takes no nonsense, with zero interest in men puts all her time into work and her daughter. She just needs a good man to break down those walls.

Lucas – charming, funny, kind, caring and oh so beautiful in those suits he wears with them gorgeous blue eyes – how could you not get on with him!! I definitely would want to work in an a office next to him. Hehe!

I also loved Vivian’s daughter Tegan – she was sassy, straight to the point, and apart from a few of her issues which I thought was a good side story she was great!

Shout out to Vivian loving my favourite drink “vanilla latte” I also am going to go on the hunt for a donut today.

I highly recommend this as its fab, fun, flirty, full of great chemistry and has two brilliant characters. Plus you will not stop laughing.

Book Review

This was hilarious, fun and made me flick through the pages greedily to find out if she found her Mr right!

Alex absolutely loves having fun with men, but has reached the point of being fed up with the men that come and go into her life as they please.  Alex now wants a proper relationship. Which she has struggled to find.

Seeking her newly married friend Stacey’s advice, she gets given a book with a set of rules for how to find the one! 7 steps which one includes no sleeping with dates for six months! You might as well tell Alex she can’t eat for six months!

The dates Alex has during this challenge are a real eye opener!! Some hilarious and some not so funny. Some really cute, some awful and pretentious. I can actually imagine this stuff actually happens in real life! Alex – a massive overthinker, makes mistakes, thought about marriage and kids after a few dates, was blind to things. All that just made her endearing and funny. Her feelings I can imagine are relatable to a lot of people who have or are dating.

Lucky Stacey was there to guide her. I absolutely adored Stacey, everyone needs a friend like Stacey. She spoke sense and tried to help Alex out. Especially with making her decision easier! Even though things were obvious to us and Stacey!! She was brilliant.

There was a few characters in this that were less likable, I wont give any spoilers away, ill let you read and judge for yourself.

As well as humour there was the romance and chemistry feels. Olivia wrote about the sweetest romantic dates. Cheese as its best! I also loved all the romantic comedy films that got a mention. This was the perfect book to read about valentines day.

If you want a light hearted book that will make you laugh, have you routing for the main character from the first chapter and enjoy some fun with some hot men along the way, I highly recommend this.

I cannot wait for the next book. I have to know what happened next.

My Review

This was a book that was so much more than just friends with benefits. Without giving anything away there was several really important, deep topics covered in this book. Which I thought was great and added that something special to the typical friends with benefits situation.

I thought it was written well and you really got to understand both points of view from a step mum and a teenager going through difficult times. As we have all been a teen, we know how hard those years can be. Lucky Lexie was the perfect step mum, as he was step son. I loved their relationship and special bond they had. They got on well and really wanted the best for each other which was sweet – they really were an amazing duo.

I loved Theo and Lexie’s relationship. I thought they both stepped up and really cared about Connor. Which is all you could want, after what he had been though. They were both amazing and I was routing for them from their first drunk evening together. They had great chemistry – it was great witnessing how Theo brought out Lexie’s naughty side and Lexie brought out Theo’s softer side. Of course it was never going to be as straight forward as they both expected.

Connor’s point of view and character were definitely my favourite, what a great kid! I It did make me laugh how he see things before the grown-ups in his life, intelligent and switched on. He was funny with what he come out with. I love how kids have no filter.

I wanted Daryl to have a chance to prove himself and felt for him too. After all everyone is dealing with things in their own way. Which was a really good message.

A really lovely, enjoyable book that was also very funny in places, which was a great mix from the serious issues. I’m glad I got to read this and be part of the blog tour. Thank you 😊

My Review

Shari Low has done it again, she has created a book that will leave you feeling happy and sad, make you laugh, yet also cry. I wanted to grab my favourite girls and hug them close with lots of wine flowing. Hopefully one day soon girls!

How happy I was to hear from Carly again, whose point of view the story is told from. Carly Cooper is a legend with the best friends you ever could want. They have the best friendship and are more like family. Think Sex and The City and twenty years later add family/kids into the mix.

Carly has changed from the carefree and adventurous women she was before. Which left me feeling sad for her and wanting her to get back to feeling more like herself, just maybe not as wild this time! Of course her friends wasn’t going to let her suffer alone.

Carly’s trip to LA was an experience. I love how all the girls had her back. The fun they had together was great. I really cannot wait for holidays again with my girls. It really is a funny book, filled with lots of laugh out moments, which is exactly what I needed right now in lockdown. There was also heartache, and I really felt for them all but the bond the girls shared was very special. I was glad to read even with the heartache Carly was still hilarious!

Sam was the best friend/ex you could ever want, with that dream house in LA. I really want to go to LA and even more so after reading this book.

Mark still had something about him and I felt sad for him at the beginning. I was still torn as much as the first book with who I liked more out of Carly’s lovers! LOL.

I absolutely love the writing style and the characters Shari creates. Also, Aunt Val deserves a massive shout out as she was just brilliant and a ray of sunshine. On the opposite scale we have Estelle well wasn’t she a piece of work!

Each chapter kept me wanting more. I literally did not want this to end, equally though I wanted to know if Carly got her happy-ever-after.

If you haven’t read What If? I highly recommend it, just because it’s great. Even though this book explains everything that happened in the first book, the first book was just as fabulous and funny as the ladies were a lot younger and finding their way in life.

Romance, heartache, friendships, forever love and trips to New York and LA. What is not to love?!

Here’s to us all living our best lives, with our soulmates 😊

My Review

Full of chemistry, romance, friendship and family history set in a Swiss village. With a stunning mountain scenery, which sounded absolutely beautiful.

I absolutely loved this book. It gave me all the winter feels. I would love nothing more than to escape to the Swiss chalet and go skiing. Not that I can ski! Maybe Luke could teach me.

I loved how the book started and where it lead to. Definitely one of those ones that reminds you that everything happens for a reason. But god what a little weasel Simon was!! I hated how he made Mina feel, which then led her to question all her positive attributes.

Mina, strong, independent, impulsive and outgoing. A social butterfly, with a passion for life and food, which I found endearing. She loved adventures, travelling and was always planning her next trip. She sounds very familiar to myself with the travelling bug so it was no wonder I adored her. I thought she was a brilliant character and one I would love to be friends with.

I really enjoyed reading about Mina and the relationship with her godmother Amelie. Their bond was very special and Amelie was another wonderful character. I loved the friendships they both formed with everyone, yet that’s no surprise when they literally spoke to anyone.

Luke – positive handsome Luke. I loved how Mina saw him, yet there was more to him then she realised. I liked the anticipation of this storyline and thought it was done perfectly.

I love how my favourite word serendipity was the basis of this book. I am a firm believer in it and this word describes this book perfectly.

There were many strong messages in the book especially about happiness – it really is the most important thing and my favourite lines being:

“It’s simple: do things that make you feel glad to be alive. And avoid the things that don’t.“

“Things in life happen which you can’t stop, but you can choose how you react to them. You can choose to be positive or negative, happy or sad, angry or calm.”

I also loved the way Julie described life, she had the perfect way of telling the story, one of my favourite sentences :

“Being with him was like drinking champagne all the time. She felt dizzy and sparkly, energised and excited” now they are the best feelings described!

I highly recommend grabbing a hot chocolate and getting cosy under a blanket to read this delightful, winter book.

Synopsis

Zip up your puffer coat, winter has arrived!

As Lexi gets to know Oliver better, she discovers there’s far more to Oliver Whimsy than she or anyone else had imagined. My Review

This really was a sweet book, based on friendships, family and romance. A great book to curl up with and escape these cold evenings and what’s going on in the world.

Strong, kind, lovely independent Lexi, who was having family issues after her dad sold her beloved cottages. Making her lose her job and her home. I really liked her and felt for her straight away, she was a lot calmer in situations where I would have been raging! I also liked how she had her own mind and wasn’t afraid to say what she thought.

Lucky Lexi had the most wonderful friends, Sacha, Bella and Jools. Always having fun, with their café meetings, little parties and walks along the beach together. As well as fun, they were always there for Lexi. I love how angry they were on her behalf for situations relating to her dad and his new girlfriend Gloria. I thought Gloria was evil!! Not all us step mums are like her! Without any spoilers she was next level!

Oliver – handsome, generous and caring. I thought people were too quick to judge him. I haven’t read the previous book to know too much about him, but I thought he deserved a chance and was glad Lexi had no other option but to give him one.

The seaside setting was beautiful, I’ve never been to Jersey before – it sounds idyllic. I say this every time I read a book by the seaside, but I really would love to live by the sea. This book had all the beautiful feels of the seaside. There was a warm community spirit here, that made you want to jump in the book and join in the winter fun.

I’m looking forward to the next book in the series Spring Siren which is based on Lexi’s friend Jools. Which I hope also gives us an update on Lexi and her life, as I feel I need to know more about how things were left. I have questions that need answers!! 🙂
